Everyone deserves a clear path out of hardship.
To make it easier for every person, every family, and every nonprofit to reach the support they need to fight hunger, prevent poverty, reduce homelessness, and build stronger communities.
We believe hunger and poverty are not inevitable. They persist not because help doesn’t exist, but because it is scattered across thousands of programs, agencies, and organizations that a struggling family has no realistic way to navigate.
ASPHP, the American Society for the Prevention of Hunger and Poverty, exists to close that gap. We combine the expertise of nonprofit professionals, the strength of community-based resources, and the reach of the JohnHelp platform to make finding help simple, human, and free.
Our commitment is to the whole person, to the mother choosing between rent and groceries, to the veteran sleeping in his car, to the caseworker with forty clients and a phone list that’s always out of date. When help is easy to find, dignity is easier to keep.
Our vision
An America where no person and no nonprofit ever has to wonder where to turn, where the distance between a need and the help that meets it is measured in minutes, not months.
- Make every trusted local resource findable in one place
- Treat poverty as the connected challenge it truly is
- Keep it free for families and for the nonprofits serving them
A problem worth solving well.
ASPHP was built on a simple, stubborn conviction: that the help already out there can reach far more people if we make it findable.
Help exists, but people can’t find it
Across the country, billions of dollars in aid and thousands of programs go unclaimed every year, not because people don’t qualify, but because no one can navigate the maze in time.
Poverty is never just one problem
Hunger, housing, health, and work are tangled together. Solving one in isolation rarely holds. ASPHP was built to treat the whole person, across all twelve cornerstones at once.
JohnHelp is born
We built a free national platform that pairs a vetted resource network with AI and human guidance, so finding help takes minutes instead of months.
A coalition of the willing
Today, more than a thousand nonprofits and community partners use JohnHelp to extend their reach, and we are only getting started.
John Taylor
John Taylor founded and led the National Community Reinvestment Coalition for three decades, building one of the most influential coalitions for economic justice in the country. He founded ASPHP to carry that work into a new era, one where finding help is as simple as asking.
The principles behind every decision.
Dignity first
Everyone who asks for help is met with respect. We build for the moment someone is most vulnerable, and we design for their dignity, not our convenience.
Strengthen, never replace
Local nonprofits are the heart of every community. We exist to make their work easier and their reach wider, never to compete with the people already doing the work.
Free, always
JohnHelp is free for families, free for nonprofit staff, and free for the community partners we serve. Cost should never stand between a person and their next step.
Technology with a heartbeat
We pair modern technology with human compassion. AI helps us find the right resource faster; people make sure it is the right one.
A mission this big needs a movement behind it.
Your gift keeps JohnHelp free for the families and nonprofits who rely on it every day.
